Is it just me, or is fashion getting exorbitantly expensive? Just the other day I was trying on a pair of trousers at Sandro, and I looked at the price tag…1,200! For pants! At Sandro?! Get the fuck out of here.
With crazy high prices, changing seasons, and evolving trends—it may seem like staying on trend means emptying out your wallet every few weeks at Barneys. But let’s not do that. It’s time to shop smarter.
Splurge on: Jackets & Bags
When you find a good jacket, and I mean a really good jacket, it’s worth the investment. Whether it’s a Balmain blazer, an Acne Studios moto jacket, or a Saint Laurent bomber—a fabulous jacket is an investment piece. And it can make the simplest look fashion-forward. Think jeans, a tee, and a killer Givenchy bomber. Done and done.
Bags are a no-brainer. Like a good jacket, a designer bag makes you instantly chic. One of my favorite outfits is my gym clothes, a pair of Celine sunglasses, and my big Givenchy bag. A quality bag is timeless, and you can pass it down through generations.
Save on: Clothes & Shoes
First off, clothing these days has become way too overpriced. 500$ for a shirt? No thanks. And not to mention, pretty much any designer look can be found at Zara …and will probably go out of style in a few months. Or you’ll get sick of it. Don’t waste your money. Stick to affordable options when it comes to clothing.
Whether you spend or save on shoes depends on your personality. If you’re one of those people who takes great care of their things, and you can keep a pair of shoes in pristine condition, then yes—spend away! Because a great pair of shoes will complete any outfit. But if you’re more of a wear and tear kind of girl (or guy), opt for affordable stylish options like Steve Madden or Vince. If you’re ‘gonna scuff up your new favorite booties in a year, then probably best not to blow your money on them.
