Is it just me, or is fashion getting exorbitantly expensive? Just the other day I was trying on a pair of trousers at Sandro, and I looked at the price tag…1,200! For pants! At Sandro?! Get the fuck out of here.

With crazy high prices, changing seasons, and evolving trends—it may seem like staying on trend means emptying out your wallet every few weeks at Barneys. But let’s not do that. It’s time to shop smarter.

Splurge on: Jackets & Bags

When you find a good jacket, and I mean a really good jacket, it’s worth the investment. Whether it’s a Balmain blazer, an Acne Studios moto jacket, or a Saint Laurent bomber—a fabulous jacket is an investment piece. And it can make the simplest look fashion-forward. Think jeans, a tee, and a killer Givenchy bomber. Done and done.

Bags are a no-brainer. Like a good jacket, a designer bag makes you instantly chic. One of my favorite outfits is my gym clothes, a pair of Celine sunglasses, and my big Givenchy bag. A quality bag is timeless, and you can pass it down through generations.

Save on: Clothes & Shoes

First off, clothing these days has become way too overpriced. 500$ for a shirt? No thanks. And not to mention, pretty much any designer look can be found at Zara …and will probably go out of style in a few months. Or you’ll get sick of it. Don’t waste your money. Stick to affordable options when it comes to clothing.

Whether you spend or save on shoes depends on your personality. If you’re one of those people who takes great care of their things, and you can keep a pair of shoes in pristine condition, then yes—spend away! Because a great pair of shoes will complete any outfit. But if you’re more of a wear and tear kind of girl (or guy), opt for affordable stylish options like Steve Madden or Vince. If you’re ‘gonna scuff up your new favorite booties in a year, then probably best not to blow your money on them.

I totally agree with you. I bought an Acne Moto jacket last year and I’m still obsessed with it. I love that Saint Laurent bomber so much. Might have to splurge on one myself!

Oh I totally agree with you dear! Jackets and bags are investments you’ll never regret. When it comes to tees, I often go for a less expensive version except it’s a super special one :)

So true, great advice. I get torn between designer shoes and bags. But Zara is my favorite for clothes

I like to mix and match high and low items too, it is all too easy to spend FAR too much on anything and everything. I definitely love having luxe designer pieces, but there are reasonable prices and then there is ridiculous! I would have walked away from those pants too. Jackets are a better investment for sure! Love these photos by the way- this spot is one of my favourite places in the world.

Luv the trousers and the Givenchy bag. You are right, with prices being ridiculously high, it’s best to buy quality investment pieces.

These are great tips – I cannot believe the pants were that expensive?! I’m one of those people who loves her shoes so I like to splurge on my accessories but I like to be careful about clothes! It’s about quality not quantity right!
