You asked, I answered!
Why did you start blogging?
I never really knew what I wanted to “be” when I grew up, I just knew I wanted writing and fashion to be a part of it. So naturally I worked in editorial when I moved to New York City. I did the fashion magazine thing—you know, the internships and the whole shebang. Then one day it clicked that I could start a blog and essentially create my own “editorial.”
Are you a full time blogger?
Nope! I work part time on the creative team for eBay corporate, but I work from home so my schedule is flexible.
How did you grow so quickly?
Honestly, just engaging with other people’s content. Target the audience of your competing accounts and shower them with likes, comments, and love <3
What are some of the best collabs you’ve done?
My favorite collaboration so far has been with Loewe. Because it was the first time a brand that I really love and respect reached out to me. I’ll never forget seeing that email subject line. But besides that, I did a shoot with Lie SangBong for Vogue Korea last year for fashion week, which was amazing. I also love working with Bloglovin for Puma, they’ve been so great.
I want to start a blog, any advice on how to get it started?
Don’t wait! Just do it! Create a week’s worth of content before you go live, and then just roll with it. Follow your intuition and post what inspires you.
What’s your relationship status?
That is one question I do not have an answer to!
How do I get my boyfriend to dress better?
All a man needs is a good haircut and a few simple basics. With a new ‘do (I’m partial to the side-swoop pompadour), a white tee, black jeans and a pair of sleek chelsea boots…anyone looks good. Less is more!
What’s dating like in NYC?
It’s a bit of a mess. No one wants to commit, but also no one wants to let anyone go. So it’s a bunch of emotional hoarders that are always “talking to” seven different people at once but not really all that invested in any of them.
That being said, there are definitely gems out there. But the NYC mentality is certainly that the next hottest thing is always just around the corner. Whether that’s a cool new club or a cool new chick. *sighs audibly*
Where do you go for stylish yet affordable clothing?
Honestly…I love Zara. I also work with SheIn a lot. They have pretty much every trend you could ever want for super cheap.
What’s the best thing that’s come out of blogging?
Being able to meet so many amazing people…through the internet! It’s kind of crazy.
Do you ever deal with online bullies/insecurities?
As a fashion blogger, you don’t so much have to deal with online bullies (because what are they going to say, that they hate your shoes?) But we deal with a lot of silent snickers behind your back. Especially from acquaintances/people that know you. You can feel the judgment, and sometimes they vocalize it, or it comes out in a sassy Instagram comment or a shady response to a Snapchat story. But that’s just the nature of the beast. We’re putting ourselves out there, and if people don’t like it, then stop looking.
As far as insecurities go, it’s virtually impossible to not feel insecure at times. This industry is built on popularity and appearances, so it’s easy to compare yourself to others. But you just have to stay confident and true to yourself, and that’s what defines success. At least to me.
What’s your biggest piece of advice for someone who wants to move to NYC?
Buckle up, baby. If you think you’re gonna waltz in here Carrie Bradshaw style with your kitten heels and beaded clutch and fall into the arms of a good-looking investment banker, think again! It’s hard work, it’s exhausting, the men are douchebags, and that cosmo you’re sipping costs 25 bucks. But I truly believe everyone needs to experience living in NYC one time in their life. It really toughens you up and teaches you who you are and what you are capable of. Because no one in this city is going to hold your hand or lead you in the right direction. You have to do it all yourself. And when you do, it’s the most rewarding feeling in the world.
