Everyone tells you to “do what you love.” If only it was that simple! Most bloggers, or freelancers in general, have to balance their creative work with a day job. And with job hours, blogging hours, photoshoots, meetings, events, collaborations, emails and social media, it’s easy to get oversaturated with work. Especially living in a city like New York.
My savior in all of this is very simple. A little black moleskin planner. Amongst the madness, a little planning and structure can go a long way. So here are some of my tips and tricks on how to manage work, play, life, and more.
1. Prioritize your platforms
With endless social media platforms, you can’t win them all. So choose what works for you and focus on that. For me, it’s Instagram. I make sure to be active on Instagram at least five times a day. And try to keep a routine post schedule. I have a Twitter and Facebook as well. But those are nothing worth bragging about….
2. Make designated blogging hours
I make sure to wake up an hour early to work on the blog before going to work. I also designate three hours to work on it at night. Whether that’s at 1 am or 7pm, I make sure to get those three hours in. It’s also important to utilize the weekends to shoot your looks, or any other more large scale projects.
3. Make designated leisure hours
The thing about blogging is that there are no set hours. If you wanted to, you could do it all day and all night. There is no clock in or clock out. So designate certain hours a day to not think about blogging.
4. Keep a routine
Schedule your posts the same time every week. Whether that’s once a week, or once a day, find something that works and stick to it.
5. Give yourself a break
Whenever you feel like you need it, get off social media, leave your phone at home, and totally ignore your blog for a day. The world won’t end, your site won’t explode, and your Instagram followers won’t all disappear. I promise.
6. Surround yourself with the right people
Because I have such little free time, I have to be selective with who I choose to spend it with. Whether that’s friends, boyfriends, or anything in between. If someone’s not worth your time, BUHYE!
