BEAT THE BLOGGER BURNOUT

Everyone tells you to “do what you love.” If only it was that simple! Most bloggers, or freelancers in general, have to balance their creative work with a day job. And with job hours, blogging hours, photoshoots, meetings, events, collaborations, emails and social media, it’s easy to get oversaturated with work. Especially living in a city like New York.

My savior in all of this is very simple. A little black moleskin planner. Amongst the madness, a little planning and structure can go a long way. So here are some of my tips and tricks on how to manage work, play, life, and more.

1. Prioritize your platforms

With endless social media platforms, you can’t win them all. So choose what works for you and focus on that. For me, it’s Instagram. I make sure to be active on Instagram at least five times a day. And try to keep a routine post schedule. I have a Twitter and Facebook as well. But those are nothing worth bragging about….

2. Make designated blogging hours

I make sure to wake up an hour early to work on the blog before going to work. I also designate three hours to work on it at night. Whether that’s at 1 am or 7pm, I make sure to get those three hours in. It’s also important to utilize the weekends to shoot your looks, or any other more large scale projects.

3. Make designated leisure hours

The thing about blogging is that there are no set hours. If you wanted to, you could do it all day and all night. There is no clock in or clock out. So designate certain hours a day to not think about blogging.

4. Keep a routine

Schedule your posts the same time every week. Whether that’s once a week, or once a day, find something that works and stick to it.

5. Give yourself a break

Whenever you feel like you need it, get off social media, leave your phone at home, and totally ignore your blog for a day.  The world won’t end, your site won’t explode, and your Instagram followers won’t all disappear. I promise.

6. Surround yourself with the right people

Because I have such little free time, I have to be selective with who I choose to spend it with. Whether that’s friends, boyfriends, or anything in between. If someone’s not worth your time, BUHYE!

Great tips! The 6 number is valid for everyone (blogger or not)! I use to waste so much time with people that didn’t deserve it. I’m the kind of person who wants to be love by everyone but I realized it’s just a waste of time and energy. Plus you always have those people who suck the energy out of you like Drake said in his song Energy ” Got a lotta people tryna drain me of my energy”.
I would add: Make short terms and long terms goals. Every quarter I write some goals down to keep focus on what I want to achieve and also to motivate me. For long term goals I try to write a vision of where I want to be and what I want to achieve in the next couple of years.
    Bisous :)

Very well said, I’m also more than instagram I do not have twitter or FB fan page with well yes, but it’s not worth mentioning. Only I am still half instagram rookie with that you say that these 5 times a day. I mean what do upload photos 5 times? or as? Instruct me !! L o l
By the way I have other things priority but if it were my job and I left my blog devoted to the moment I have only him some time in my spare time when I work! anyway.
You look beautiful in that look very stylish so simple.
    Cheers

Great advice! I usually spend 2 or 3 hours a day blogging, and sometimes I have to stay up until 2 or 3am, but I wake up at 6am everyday, so I should probably sleep a little more :) To me the hardest part is keeping a routine, sometimes I post 1x a week and sometimes 3x a week, I really have to work on that! Your outfit is stunning, I love your jacket, and you’re beautiful!

This is a great post. I work for Elle, so doing both an extremely demanding day job and then keeping up with my blog is exhausting. I think all bloggers who aren’t full-time yet can agree with this post.
Oh, and you look amazing (but you always do).
